ePolk takes Florida Chemical Co. into the Cloud
May 24, 2011
ePolk, Inc. has completed the migration of Florida Chemical Co., Inc.’s accounting and customer enterprise resource planning (ERP) system offsite to a new location in the “Cloud.” Florida Chemical personnel are now able to access the operational database in real time from any PC, Mac, iPad or any thin client. This allows Florida Chemical to streamline operations to include a newly opened branch office in Texas.
What is the "Cloud"?
The “Cloud” is a technological term referring to hosted services in a secured, offsite data center. In addition to the increased accessibility, the cloud offers significant data security and improved disaster recovery capacity. “This enables us to maintain efficiency with our expanding operations,” said Tom Hodge, chief financial officer of Florida Chemical Co.
As in the case of most medium to large companies, Florida Chemical relies on custom software to run its operations. Keeping the data on an in-house server can result in the loss of crucial information such as orders, inventory and customer management databases in the event of a power outage, fire, or other natural disaster.
Mike Kingham, president of ePolk, Inc. said, “knowing Florida Chemical’s operational needs, they were an ideal candidate for the Cloud.” Kingham added “With hurricane season approaching, we recommend that all of our clients consider their server’s vulnerability in a natural disaster.”
